In August 2000, born out of a need a ‘system wide’ solution to the collapse in the maintenance of State vehicles, the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago (GORTT) established The Vehicle MaintenanceCorporation of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (VMCOTT).
Then in April 2005, the GORTT recognized a further need for a comprehensive system that manages its various vehicle fleets across Trinidad and Tobago. Consequently, the strategic direction of VMCOTT was changed from ‘vehicle maintenance’ to that of ‘fleet management’; giving rise to a name change – The Vehicle ManagementCorporation of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (VMCOTT).
GORTT held the position (then and has reaffirmed it in 2009, 2012 and even now)that centralizing the maintenance function for vehicles owned/operated by the State is beneficial to GORTT for economic and other gains.
Thus, GORTT mandated VMCOTT as a Central Controlling agency to provide full fleet management services to the Public Sector… as well as to any Private Sector interests.
